Latex vs. Coils…Where to Begin?

Choosing a mattress can be overwhelming, but the first step is realizing there’s no one-size-fits-all solution. Knowing your options makes it way easier to find the one that’s just right, and luckily, our dream team is here to guide you—no homework required. We’ll do all the heavy lifting to ensure you have all the info you need before you decide.

The Basics: Why Latex vs. Coils?

When people walk into a mattress showroom, many gravitate toward traditional innerspring mattresses because they’re familiar, while others shy away from foam due to bad experiences with memory foam (too hot, too soft, and the list goes on—hence why we don’t have a memory foam option!). But here’s the thing: latex isn’t foam (it’s actually rubber!), which solves a lot of those issues. Between the solid support of coils, the breathability and comfort of latex, and the combination of latex/coil hybrids, there’s something for everyone (even your spouse who swears they can never get comfortable).

Key Questions to Consider Before Choosing

To figure out what mattress will work for you, ask yourself a few key questions:

What size do you need?
Is this for a primary bedroom or a guest room?

Do you have any discomfort?
Back, neck, or hip pain? The right mattress can help alleviate pressure on trouble spots.

What’s your sleeping position?
Side sleepers need more pressure relief, which makes latex or a hybrid mattress a good choice. Back sleepers tend to prefer firmer support, so a coil mattress might work better.

Do you have any specific requirements, like a box spring or adjustable base?
You’ll want to know if your mattress is compatible with your foundation needs.

What’s wrong with your old mattress?
Is it sagging? Too firm? Too soft? Knowing what you want to improve helps narrow down your options.

Latex vs. Coils: Know The Differences

Coil Mattresses

Coil mattresses have been around for decades, and while many manufacturers moved away from them, we still value the classic, durable design. Our superior innersprings are made with the best coils in the industry, featuring the heaviest gauge wire and the most supportive (side) steel edges support for unbeatable strength and stability (and who doesn’t want that in the bedroom?).

While they can be firmer and sometimes require flipping (though ours can be both flippable and rotatable—don’t worry), a coil mattress remains a reliable, long-lasting option. If you like a firmer feel, it’s still one of the best choices out there!

Hybrid Latex

A hybrid mattress, combining coils and latex, is a great option for those looking for support with additional added comfort. The latex on top provides pressure relief and helps with motion transfer, while the coils provide more structure. This is a good choice if you like the idea of a traditional coil mattress but want the benefits of latex, especially if you sleep on your side.

Latex

Our latex mattresses are highly supportive, breathable, and durable. They’re ideal for people who want a cool sleep environment and a mattress that will stand the test of time. Plus, the foam layer in our latex mattresses is CertiPUR-US certified, so you can trust it meets the highest standards for quality, safety, and performance. If you’re looking for something that combines comfort, pressure relief, and long-term durability, latex is a top contender.

Still Don’t Know Where to Start? Test Them Out!

If you’re still unsure, the best thing to do is lie down on different types of mattresses. Take your time—what works for someone else might not work for you (but if you want a reference, our dog Leia sleeps on a 6” medium latex!).

Visit our showroom and have your own Goldilocks moment, where you’ll finally find the mattress that’s just right. And if you want something tailored even more to your needs, we make our mattresses right behind the showroom—so we can customize them to your preferences.

In the meantime, check out the comparison charts on our website for the full breakdown of specs on each of our mattress types. And for any additional questions, our team is here to help—no need to lose sleep over the details!
