What Exactly Is a Beducator? Inside Shovlin’s Approach to Mattress Shopping

Buying a mattress shouldn’t feel like walking onto a car lot. You shouldn’t need to know exactly
what you want before you arrive, and you definitely shouldn’t leave wondering if you were talked
into something you didn’t need.

At Shovlin Mattress Factory, our showroom team is made up of Beducators who know
mattresses inside and out. They take the time to learn how you sleep, what feels comfortable,
and what concerns you’re trying to address before recommending a few options worth taking to
bed.

They Know What’s Under the Covers

Our factory is attached to our showroom, so our Beducators don’t learn about mattresses from a
spec sheet. They’re directly exposed to how they’re made, including the materials inside and the
construction techniques used to secure each layer and prevent shifting over time.

Their expertise extends well beyond our own mattresses. We’ve deconstructed name-brand
mattresses to see how they’re made and compare what’s actually inside with how they’re
marketed. After 54 years, we’ve learned there’s nothing wrong with taking a little peek under the
covers. It gives our team a deeper understanding of the industry and helps them separate
meaningful differences from fancy mattress talk.

They Start With How You Sleep

Most guests don’t walk into the showroom knowing which coil system or comfort material they
need. They know their lower back bothers them in the morning, their shoulder gets
uncomfortable when they sleep on their side, they can feel their partner moving around all night,
they need to find a position that makes breathing more comfortable, etc.

Our Beducators meet you where you are, asking questions about your sleep preferences
and any concerns you’re trying to address then using those answers to narrow the
showroom down to a few mattresses that make sense for you. Instead of lying on 20 beds
until they all start feeling the same, you’ll typically have a top three to spend some quality
time with (this is the only time we’ll encourage sleeping around).

They Do Their Homework

Our Beducators continue their education beyond materials and manufacturing, including
collaborating with chiropractors to learn more about pressure relief and how different areas of
the body need support during sleep. This helps them understand how specific mattress
materials and construction techniques can address the concerns you’re experiencing, rather
than simply recommending a particular firmness level.

That attention to fit is a big reason our return rate is less than 1%. Taking the time to
understand each customer before recommending a mattress helps us get much closer to
the right match the first time around. And since we build everything in our own factory, we
can make small comfort adjustments to your mattress if you decide it needs a tweak after
sleeping on it. When you’re spending every night together, compatibility is pretty
important.

They Can Go Beyond the Showroom Floor

Because we build our own mattresses, our Beducators can communicate directly with the
factory staff to customize a mattress for your specific comfort needs and make adjustments
when appropriate. They understand what’s possible because they’re part of the process, giving
customers more flexibility than choosing from a fixed selection.

If you’re curious about what goes into your mattress, come see for yourself! Customers are
welcome to tour the factory, watch our team at work, and get a closer look at the materials and
construction techniques behind the beds they’ve been trying in the showroom.

We like people to know exactly who they’re getting into bed with.

Come Meet the Beducators

You don’t have to study mattresses before shopping for one. We’ve already done plenty of
homework. Tell our Beducators how you sleep, what you like, and what you’d like to improve,
and they’ll use what they know about materials, construction, and comfort to narrow down the
choices and give you plenty of time to find your right fit.

After 54 years of building mattresses, we know a good match when we see one. And when
you’re going to spend roughly a third of your life together, it’s worth finding a mattress you’ll be
happy to come home to every night.
