How to Build a Rest Routine That Actually Works

The New Year always brings a wave of resolutions about taking better care of yourself. Some people promise to work out more, others swear they’ll finally drink enough water, and a few declare this is the year they finally stop doomscrolling before bed (we’ll believe it when we see it).

And while we support all resolutions, if you really want to feel better in the year ahead, the simplest place to start is your sleep. A good night’s rest sets the tone for everything that comes after: your mood, your energy, your workouts, how many times you hit snooze, and how patient you are with anyone who tries to talk to you before coffee.

Here are a few ways to build a wellness routine that starts where all good things begin: in bed.

Set the Mood for Sleep

Like most other wellness routines, consistency is key. Your body loves rhythm, so going to sleep and waking up at the same time every day gives your internal clock something steady to follow. Try keeping your room cool, cutting back on late-night caffeine and alcohol, limiting daytime naps, and giving your mind a little time to unwind without the glow of your phone tugging you into one more scroll before bed. Trust us…nothing kills the mood like blue light.

Move a Little More

Exercise does more for sleep than most people realize. Even a brisk walk or a short yoga session can help your body settle down at night. You don’t need Olympic-level training, just enough movement during the day to take the edge off and help you rest more deeply.

Upgrade Your Sleep Setup

A high-quality mattress, supportive foundation, sturdy frame, and the right pillows give your body the structure it needs to actually recover at night. If you want to start the year strong, begin with the basics.

And if you’re not sure about the current status of your sleep setup, we offer a free Home Sleep System Assessment so you can get honest recommendations based on what you already have. Sometimes a few small tweaks make a huge difference, and our team is always happy to take a look.

Fuel Your Nights with Sleep-Friendly Foods

Some foods naturally support rest thanks to melatonin, magnesium, and other essential nutrients for quality sleep. Almonds, bananas, warm milk, herbal tea, fatty fish, and even tart cherries can gently nudge your body in the right direction. It’s not a miracle cure, but it is a nice way to help your system wind down.

Try beem® Light Therapy

If you are looking to boost your sleep routine this year, beem® Light Sauna Studio is opening this winter and bringing red light and infrared sauna therapy to Fanwood. These sessions will help your body relax, recover, and ease into better sleep once you get home and crawl into bed.

The studio is owned by Ron and Kara, so you can trust the experience is in expert hands. By the time you get home, you’ll be ready to melt right into your mattress (or…something like that).

Starting the Year on the Right Side of the Bed

Before you overhaul your habits, your diet, or your gym routine, look at the place you spend a third of your life. Great nights lead to better days, and the right mattress can change the way you move through both.

If a new bed is part of your New Year goals, come visit our showroom. The Dream Team knows how to match you with the setup that keeps you feeling your best even after you give up on the rest of your resolutions.
