By hand. By real people. Not shipped in, not pulled off a shelf, and definitely not dropped at your door in a box.

They’re usually surprised again when they hear how fast it happens, and even more surprised that speed never comes at the expense of quality. In many cases, we can build a mattress in about a week. Instead of warehouses packed with mass-produced finished beds and long waits for shipments, we have skilled hands using quality materials and a process we’ve been refining since 1972. And in rare cases when someone truly needs it fast, we’ve even built a mattress in just a few hours. Turns out being hands-on has its perks.

Handcrafted Means Made From Scratch

Here, nothing is prefabricated. We house all of our raw materials right here in our factory and build each mattress from the ground up once an order is placed. Every layer is cut, assembled, and finished specifically for you (and whatever you’re planning for later).

We source our materials from the USA and work closely with mostly local suppliers, many of whom have been with us for over forty years. These long-standing partnerships, often with other family-run companies, reflect our shared commitment to doing things the right way and allow us to contribute more to our community.

Built to Order, Not Pulled From a Shelf

Once your order is placed, we begin construction. Every mattress is made to order, which is why we don’t keep finished mattresses sitting in stock. Custom firmnesses and custom sizes are part of what we do best, and that kind of flexibility only works when you’re building fresh every time.

We even do our own quilting, which is rare these days, especially for a smaller factory. Materials are prepped and cut to size ahead of time, then assembled by our factory team as orders roll in. It’s all very hands-on, so your mattress gets plenty of one-on-one attention before it ever makes it to your bedroom (or your boat, or couch, or guest room, or dog bed…you get the idea).

Because everything is made by people, not machines, details don’t get overlooked. When something can be improved, it is. When an adjustment is needed, we can often make it quickly, sometimes even the same day, as long as the mattress is in sanitary condition and it’s shortly after delivery. That kind of care comes from having the same team involved from the first stitch to the moment you finally fall in love with your bed.

Mixing Up a Warranty and a Guarantee

These two words get thrown around a lot, but they don’t mean the same thing. A warranty protects you if there’s a manufacturer defect, but there’s usually a cost involved. A guarantee costs you nothing. Most companies don’t offer guarantees anymore, but at Shovlin, we still stand behind what we make. So long as any issues are from the general wear and tear of a good night’s sleep and not from misuse of the mattress, the guarantee doesn’t cost you a dime.

Even the perfect mattress can take some getting used to. Give it a few weeks to break in and let your body adjust to proper support. It’s kind of like breaking in a new relationship. It takes a little time to find your rhythm, but once you do, the comfort level’s unbeatable.
