The History of Nirvana® and the Devoted Following of Nirvana® Nation

Our Nirvana® line did not start as a master plan. It started because customers kept walking into the showroom asking about foam mattresses, and we are not the type to chase hype without testing it ourselves.

When memory foam first exploded in popularity, it was marketed as the future of sleep. People were undoubtedly curious, but we were cautious. Early versions slept hot, long-term durability was still up in the air, and the feel was not exactly love at first sleep. Still, if everyone was curious, we were going to build our own version and see what all the fuss was about.

The Foam Phase

Our first build paired memory foam with high-density foam, and while many customers enjoyed it, we kept a close eye on how it felt over time and how it performed in real bedrooms, not just on paper. All of the foam we use in our mattresses is CertiPUR-US® certified, which means it meets rigorous standards for emissions, content, performance, and durability. Even so, that early version had one consistent critique: it ran a little hot (and not in the good way).

Fortunately, Talalay latex had already been part of our lineup for decades (we had been selling a six-inch latex mattress long before springless became trendy). As we compared long-term performance and real customer feedback, the solution became clear. Latex delivered the cooler, more responsive feel people wanted, and we couldn’t deny that chemistry.

Around 2004, more than thirty mattresses were replaced at no cost when the latex combo proved to be the better build. If something feels better and lasts longer, we’re not losing any sleep over that decision.

The Latex Combo

The original latex combo featured three inches of latex over five inches of foam, which felt great at the time, but as mattresses across the industry started getting thicker and expectations shifted, we adjusted the build and increased the latex to six inches. Sometimes, bigger is better. That extra material made a real difference in both comfort and long-term durability, and customers felt it right away.

Compared to memory foam, latex responds quicker, sleeps cooler, and supports your body without trapping you in one position. Instead of that slow, sinking feeling you get with foam, it gently lifts and moves with you, which becomes especially noticeable once the lights go out and the mattress is put to real-life use. The kind of performance that holds up when things heat up tends to make a lasting impression.

Finding Nirvana®

As springless mattresses gained traction, more people found Nirvana®. The feel was noticeably different, and word spread quickly through well-rested customers who were more than happy to talk about it. People across town started coming in specifically for this line, and before long, we were hearing from customers out of state who were willing to make the drive.

As interest grew, so did the lineup. Nirvana® Shangri-La refined the luxurious feel, and Nirvana® Hybrid added coils for those who appreciate a little bounce in the bedroom. Anything built around latex now lives under the Nirvana® umbrella, offering different preferences while holding the same high standard that made it popular in the first place.

Enter Nirvana® Nation

Somewhere along the way, this support turned into Nirvana® Nation. It is not a membership program. There is no secret handshake. It is just a group of people who appreciate a mattress that stays cool and performs consistently night after night.

Since its inception, Nirvana® Nation has grown beyond the bed itself. Customer appreciation events are in the works, including comedy nights, baseball games, and local outings, built around connection instead of sales. We are also exploring partnerships in the wellness and luxury space, because if you care about what you sleep on, chances are you care about the rest of your environment, too.

The Mattress Line Worth Settling Down For

Nirvana® built a following because it performs the way a great mattress should, year after year, in real bedrooms. Once you find something that feels right and holds up long after the honeymoon phase, it’s time to Stop Sleeping Around…Sleep on a Shovlin.®
